Every time we meet we’ll be doing in-class writing on the film of that week. You can write whatever you want, but I encourage you to work on your first paragraph in your blog response post assignment. This is the film analysis paragraph, which on the “Online Exercises” page on the class blog is described thus:
In your film analysis paragraph, describe the significant themes and formal elements of the film of the week. You might also consider what the film says about the time and place in which it was made. Your film analysis will mostly involve descriptive writing (as opposed to evaluative or interpretative writing), as described in your textbook (chapter 3). Your film analysis paragraph should be 4-8 sentences long.
In effect, you’re writing the first draft of your blog response post assignment. For that reason, if you are doing the in-class writing exercise on a laptop or computer, you can actually log in to your WordPress account right now and start a new blog entry. Then, on Friday, when you go back to do the rest of the blog response assignment, you can just continue that blog entry, adding to it the other two paragraphs required in the assignment.
For this first time, I encourage you to think about how the main topic of writing for film works as a theme in Adaptation.
